Fishing charters offer great services for anglers, allowing them to find professional guides who know the hot local spots and who can help put a client "on the fish" consistently. The words "fishing charter," though, often bring to mind the idea of a fly-in camp in northern Maine or sitting in the fighting chair off the coast of Bimini. Confusion Charters takes the idea of professional guides, but places it within reach of even day-trip anglers: Lake Michigan, just off Chicago's shore. For individuals or small groups, even on a small budget, it's possible to get a package half-day or full-day fishing trip in the rich fishing waters just two or three miles out into the lake. Chinook and Coho salmon, lake and brown trout and even yellow perch can be caught from one of their modern, comfortable boats; for families or business groups, it makes a great outing.
Operating out of the Montrose Harbor on Lakefront Drive in Chicago and from the Northpoint Marina, about an hour north of the city, near the Wisconsin state line, Confusion Charters owns several modern, well-appointed fishing boats capable of handling from six up to 13 guests. They have all the amenities and safety gear and are willing and able to provide the entire range of clients - from experienced anglers to novices and even younger children - discover the joy of deeper water freshwater fishing. They provide the poles, tackle and life vests; all guests have to do is provide their own food and beverages (no glass, please), sunscreen and, of course, cameras. They'll even clean the fish, if you want. Clients will have to arrange for their own fishing licenses in advance; considering that a charter may range from Illinois waters into Wisconsin or down into Indiana, depending upon when the charter is scheduled, Confusion Charters can provide information on which licenses should be obtained. The charter season begins in late March and lasts through the beginning of December.
Rates
The rates vary depending upon the size of the group, length of charter and day of the week - weekends and holidays are charged slightly more. A half-day (6-hour) private charter for up to 6 guests, for example, is $560.00 to $600.00; a full-day (8-hour) charter is $690.00 to $730.00. There are also multi-day charters available. Larger groups, including multi-boat charters, can also be accommodated. Contact Confusion Charters for prices and terms.
